Sibiu is a city full of charm and history, which invites you to discover its architectural, cultural and natural beauties. If you want to spend a memorable weekend in Sibiu, here are some ideas for activities and places to visit:

Saturday: Explore the historic center and surroundings

Start your day with a traditional breakfast at one of the guesthouses or cafes in the city center, such as the Casa Frieda Guesthouse, Bohemia Cafe or Crama Sibiul Vechi. Then, take a walk through the historic city center, where you can admire medieval buildings and important monuments such as the Council Tower, the Evangelical Church, the Bridge of Lies, the Great Square, the Small Square and the Huet Square. Do not miss the opportunity to visit the Brukenthal Museum, the oldest museum in Romania, which houses an impressive collection of European art. If you want to enjoy nature and fresh air, you can take a trip to one of the attractions near the city. You can choose to visit Făgărașului Citadel, the best preserved feudal citadel in Romania, where you can learn more about the history of Transylvania and the Bethlen noble family. Or you can go to Ocna Sibiului, where you can take a relaxing bath in one of the 52 salt lakes formed in former salt mines. Or you can opt for a hike on Giumalău Mountain, where you can admire spectacular landscapes and visit Brâncoveanu Monastery.

Sunday: Discover local culture and traditions

After you've had a good rest at the hotel or guesthouse, it's time to discover the local culture and traditions of Sibiu. You can start with a visit to the ASTRA Museum, the largest open-air museum in Romania, located in the Dumbrava Natural Park of Sibiu. Here you can see more than 300 peasant houses and craft workshops from different areas of the country, as well as thematic exhibitions about rural life and folk civilization. If you want to go back in time and see how the Transylvanian Saxons lived in the past centuries, you can take a trip to one of the fortified churches around the city. You can choose to visit the Fortified Church of Cisnădie, the Fortified Church of Cisnădioara or the Fortified Church of Cristian. All these churches were built between the 13th and 16th centuries and served as places of worship and refuge for the Saxon communities. If you want to have fun and enjoy music and dance, you can go to one of the cultural events that take place in the city. You can choose to participate in the Sibiu International Theater Festival, which takes place in June and brings artists from all over the world to the stage. Or you can go to the Sibiu Jazz Festival, which takes place in August and offers live jazz, blues, funk and soul concerts.
